Studying in the Netherlands is becoming more and more popular among international students, partly because of the ample array of world-leading Dutch universities with English taught programs.

This article is a highlight of some of the top destination universities in the Netherlands which are distributed around some of the largest cities in the Netherlands.

Top education and research are central to the oldest and largest technical university in the Netherlands. The 8-faculty University offers 16 bachelor’s and more than 30 master’s programmes with over 25,000 students and 6,000 employees who share a fascination for science, design and technology. 

Established in 1632, the University of Amsterdam (UvA) has grown into one of the most prominent universities, across the entire breadth of humanities, social sciences, science and medical sciences. Established in 1636, Utrecht is one of the oldest universities in the Netherlands. In 2018, it had an enrollment of 31,801 students, and a total of 7,191 faculty and staff. In 2018, 525 PhD degrees were awarded and 6,948 scientific articles were published. Utrecht University has been placed consistently in the top 100 universities in the world by prominent international ranking tables.

In the most important international rankings, Erasmus University Rotterdam is in the top 3% of the best universities in the world. Erasmus University Rotterdam consists of seven schools, two institutes and a university college with their own administration.

Founded in 1575, Leiden University is one of Europe’s leading international research universities. The University has seven faculties and is located in Leiden and The Hague.

The University of Groningen is a research university with a global outlook, deeply rooted in Groningen, City of Talent. Quality has had top priority for four hundred years, and with success: the University is currently in or around the top 100 on several influential ranking lists.

Wageningen University & Research (WUR) is the partnership between Wageningen University and Stichting Wageningen Research.

The University of Twente is a public technical university located in Enschede, Netherlands.

The UT collaborates with Delft University of Technology, Eindhoven University of Technology and the Wageningen University and Research Centre under the umbrella of 4TU, and is also a partner in the European Consortium of Innovative Universities (ECIU).
